Comfort Zone: DIY Tie-Dye Loungewear

Published Date April 17, 2020

Whether you're working or schooling from home or you're not even sure what day it is, chances are, loungewear is your new go-to daily outfit choice. Is anyone even wearing jeans at this point? Pass the sweats and leggings please! Since we're all pretty much laying low right now, we recommend chillin' in style with tie-dye loungewear. Not only is tie dyeing your stuff a fun creative activity (that you really can't mess up if you tried because all tie dye is cool), but you get something awesome to wear afterward. Check out this roundup of comfy tie-dye DIYs that'll have you ready for your next video chat with no extra effort!

What you need:

Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice

- 100% cotton hoodie or sweatshirt in white

- 100% cotton leggings or sweats in white

- 100% cotton tank top or T-shirt in white

Pastel Stripe Tie-Dye Sweatshirt

Right now we're vibing with soft color palettes like pastels and other cool tones. They help put us in a zen state of mind! This simple pastel stripes tie-dye design across a cozy sweatshirt is all about total relaxation. You can keep it simple with just a few stripes like we did, or add stripes to your entire sweatshirt; get creative with it!

Pastel Crumple Tie-Dye Sweatshirt

Doesn't this hoodie remind you of a softer version of camo? Create this cozy vibe by watering down your dyes to make them extra pastel, then using the crumple tie-dye technique on the entire hoodie (don't forget to flip it over and dye the backside as well). You can use a mix of your favorite dye colors with the crumple technique, or one color if you want to keep it super simple! Another way to get this cool watercolor pastel look is with the ice dye technique; you don't even have to add water to your dyes - just sprinkle them over the ice on your hoodie and let the ice do the work!

Ombre Tie-Dye Tank Top

A soft tank top is perfect for lounging, especially as the weather starts to warm up! Recreate this simple ombre tie-dye design by mixing up your dye and squeezing it directly from the bottle onto the tank top, applying more dye at the bottom and less as you work up towards the top. Try blending several dye colors for a fun variation, or applying the dye to the top section instead.

Tie-Dye Leggings

We don't know about you, but we're basically in leggings 24/7 right now, and we're not sorry about it. We're just sorry we don't have MORE LEGGINGS. Treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind set with tie dye! You'll want to make sure your leggings are 100% cotton so you can dye them, then check out our tie-dye leggings tutorial to see how we created this cool inverted V tie-dye pattern. We opted for simple black dye, but you could absolutely recreate this same pattern using multiple colors, or trying a completely different tie-dye technique on your leggings.

Ice Dye Pastel Tie-Dye Sweatshirt

Remember that ice dye technique we mentioned for the hoodie above? Try combining it with the stripe tie-dye technique for this seriously cool effect! First you'd bind your sweatshirt in vertical stripes (if you're going for this same look), then apply dyes using the ice dye technique. The result is chill loungewear that looks as good as it feels!
