You don't need a ton of tie dye, which is why the Tulip Carnival Kit featuring 1-oz. tie-dye bottles (coming soon!) is perfect for this project. Check out this simple tutorial for marbling with tie dye and get inspired to create fun marble effects on shoes, bags or whatever you feel like tie dyeing!
- Tulip Carnival One-Step Tie-Dye Kit (COMING SOON - or kit of choice)
- White canvas shoes
- Shaving cream
- Masking tape
- Large semi-shallow dish (like a casserole dish)
- Skewer
- Spatula or spoon
Gather your supplies for easy access to prep your work surface. We recommend covering your work area with a plastic tablecloth or protective plastic of some kind to protect from any accidental spills.
Leave your shoes dry and tape around the soles to protect from dye. If your shoes have laces, you'll want to remove them as well.
Fill pan with a generous amount of shaving cream. (Remember to use cream and not gel.)
Smooth out the shaving cream with a spatula so the surface is flat.
Add water to desired dye bottles (you can use one or multiple colors) and shake to mix.
Squeeze dye randomly over shaving cream.
Run a skewer through the shaving cream in vertical and horizontal patterns to "marble" dye as shown.
Roll shoe over the marbled dye on top of the shaving cream, completely rotating the shoe to cover it in shaving cream/dye.
Scrape off excess shaving cream with the spatula and use a paper towel to clean off any additional product. Repeat process for other shoe. Let dry for the dye to completely set, then remove tape.
We love that the marbling dye technique produces something a little different every time you try it. Trick your kicks in marbled style for a one-of-a-kind pair that can't be duped!
