What's cooler than wearing tie dye?! Nothing! It's continuing to rock the fashion world this year, and we couldn't be happier about it, because obviously we love all things tie dye. One tie-dye fashion trend we're seriously into is Reverse Tie Dye. You might be wondering exactly what that means ... instead of adding color, you start with a dark garment, bind it just like you would for tie dye, then remove the existing color with bleach. It creates such an edgy effect! Of course you can add color back in afterward with Tulip Tie Dye as you'll see in the following roundup.
- Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit
- Bleach
- Black or dark-colored T-shirt
- Plastic surface cover
For all of the artists and art lovers out there, this abstract reverse tie-dye pattern is for you! Bound with rubber bands in a few sections along the bottom with the top part of the shirt remaining flat, we applied a 50/50 bleach/water solution liberally to the bound section then randomly poured it in sections moving upwards towards the top of the T-shirt to create abstract bleach patterns. After the bleaching process and laundering, try adding color back over your design with your favorite tie-dye kit. You can replicate this look with the Kaleidoscope Party Kit.
Heart tie-dye T-shirts are cool enough already, but a reverse tie-dye heart T-shirt?! Yes please! We're swooning over how this one turned out ... just like a heart exploding with all kinds of tie-dye love! To create this pattern on a black T-shirt, bind your shirt using the Heart Tie-Dye Technique. Once you've completed the heart portion, make sure to bind the rest of the entire shirt with rubber bands at least an inch apart. Apply your 50/50 bleach/water solution according to the Reverse Tie-Dye process, then when your shirt is ready for tie dye, use colors from the Super Big Tie-Dye Party Kit to get this burning hot heart.
Wondering what Reverse Tie Dye looks like without the added dye? Here you go! Super simple and still super edgy chic. Get this look using the Crumple Tie-Dye Technique with your 50/50 bleach/water solution.
Follow the rainbow to this Reverse Tie-Dye tee that's as good as gold! Start at the corner and bind the entire way with rubber bands before adding your bleach solution to create cool arched effects. Get the colors of the rainbow from our Super Big Tie-Dye Party Kit. Add as many as you like or try keeping it super simple with one allover color or color in just a few sections. There's no wrong way to do it, and the result is guaranteed to be awesome!
