Published Date December 06, 2019

We can't stress this enough: tie dye isn't just for summertime! (Ignore the name of our website.) Give yourself (and your friends and family) the gift of tie dye this holiday season with a Tie-Dye Christmas Tree Hoodie that's cute, cozy and totally festive. Since it's cold outside and you probably want to put on your new favorite hoodie ASAP, (and also Christmas is just around the corner if you're making as a gift), speed up your tie-dye process with the Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye Kit! Check out this tutorial from Club Crafted then grab your kit and get your tie-dye Christmas tree started.

Pre-wash your hoodie and leave damp (do not use fabric softener). Lay flat on a covered work surface and fold in half vertically. Create a Christmas tree shape on a piece of cardstock and cut out. (You will only need half of the tree for this pattern). Align the tree cutout with the fold of the hoodie and trace on the shirt with a washable marker.

Tightly pleat the hoodie along the marker line, aligning the fabric so that the marker line appears straight across the pleats as you work.

Wrap rubber bands around the shirt to secure, starting the first one at the marker line, then another about an inch after, and a third an inch or two after the second. Re-soak in water to completely dampen hoodie and wring out. (Hoodie MUST be completely damp before microwaving to avoid possibly scorching the fabric.)

Place your hoodie on a wire rack if you have one, then mix your green and fuchsia dyes according to instructions. (Note: you can also order a red 1-color kit if you want to keep your color scheme super traditional.) Apply green dye to the tip where your tree pattern is, then apply fuchsia dye to the rest of the hoodie.

Immediately place the hoodie in one of the containers from your kit and follow instructions for microwaving based on your microwave's wattage.

Once the hoodie has been microwaved and allowed to set in the container for 15 minutes to cool and for the dye to set, remove from the container and cut off the rubber bands. Immediately wash and dry according to laundering instructions.

After the hoodie has been washed and dried, use Tulip Dazzling Glitter Paints and/or Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints to create ornaments and a star on your tree! Let dry completely before wearing.

How fun is this tie-dye Christmas tree?! And hey, if you decide to wear it until the weather warms up, we're not judging, because we'll probably be doing the same.
